ILiADS Call for Liaison Participation 2021

The ILiADS Steering Committee seeks people who might serve as liaisons to project teams at ILiADS 2021, held virtually during July 26-30th. We are seeking liaisons with any combination of expertise in: digital scholarship tools and methodologies; programming, multimedia, and design experience; or audio/video production skills, including 3-D/VR. To facilitate our virtual institute, this year we are recruiting liaisons for two levels of commitment.

To express interest in being a liaison for ILiADS 2021, please fill out this form by May 24, 2021!

What is a liaison?

Liaisons wear several hats – including project manager, coach, and technical expert – as they shepherd teams from project acceptance in the spring through the week of the summer institute. In 2021, full liaisons will work with teams prior to and during ILiADS. They’ll be in contact with teams before the institute to help them prepare and will attend ILiADS events with their team during the week. Single day liaisons will not be attached to a team; instead they’ll hold a workshop and consulting time for the entire community on a single day of the institute.

Is this role a good fit for me?

Liaisons come from a range of backgrounds, but they share skills in listening, teaching, mediating, and consulting. Past liaisons have expressed that the experience has significantly contributed to their professional development, and liaisons as well as ILiADS teams benefit from connecting with other digital scholarship practitioners during and after the institute. We will hold liaison training prior to ILiADS to ensure all liaisons have the resources they need.

What’s the difference between full and single day liaisons?

With our move to a virtual ILiADS, we wanted to continue to provide participants the chance to hear from a wide range of expertise. We recognize that the virtual environment might not enable the impromptu skill sharing or pop-up workshops we’ve seen in past years. Therefore, we’ve added a new type of liaison role this year: the single day liaison.

Full liaisons will operate much like liaisons have in past years. They’re responsible for pre-institute communication with teams, daily meetings with teams during ILiADS, and potentially leading workshops or training sessions for all institute participants.

Single day liaisons will only participate in one day of ILiADS. They’ll be responsible for leading a workshop and holding consultation time for all ILiADS participants, not just one team. We hope this new role provides an opportunity for folks to participate in ILiADS even if they are unable to devote a full week to the institute.

What are the expectations?

Liaisons will be provided with a detailed memorandum of understanding upon selection. Full liaisons will receive a $500 honorarium and single day liaisons will receive a $250 honorarium. All liaisons will participate in liaison training prior to ILiADS. We expect liaisons to adhere to our Key Values and Community Guidelines.

Full liaisons will be expected to communicate with their assigned team(s) in the weeks leading up to ILiADS. Full liaisons will be expected to attend the entire institute. Single day liaisons will be expected to attend morning and afternoon sessions during the day of their participation in ILiADS. Though the schedule is forthcoming, the virtual events will be conducted in Central Time.

How do I apply?

If you’d like to be added to the liaison pool, fill out this form by May 24, 2021. We will begin contacting liaisons on May 10th, 2021. Please be aware that final liaison selection will be determined by the needs of the ILiADS teams.

If you have questions or know someone who would make a great liaison, please contact the Liaison Coordinator, Mackenzie Brooks, at brooksm [at] wlu.edu.
