Institute for Liberal Arts Digital Scholarship (ILiADS)
June 10 – 15, 2018 at Occidental College
Now in its fourth year, ILiADS reaffirms its original commitment to supporting collaborative digital scholarly projects, with an abiding interest in hybrid teams of undergraduate students, faculty, librarians, and staff. The “sweet spot” of the ILiADS model is its realization of intellectual generosity through pursuit of a common goal.
ILiADS is an opportunity for participants to work intensely on their own projects, with facilitation and technical support, in the company of other teams from around the country. Projects this year explore emergent immersive genres, text encoding, digital storytelling, multi-institutional research projects and open courseware. Across this diversity of approaches to “the digital,” participants collectively deepen and interrogate our understanding of a liberal arts education in the present day.
This year is also a turning point in the development of ILiADS, as stakeholders from years past will convene to consider how to place this itinerant institute/conference on a more permanent footing, as an organization with affiliations and an online publication of project work. To that end, ILiADS 2018 will be informed by a series of afternoon talks, panel presentations, and mixers relevant to the values and priorities of liberal arts education as they pertain to scholarly identity, inclusive research practices, digital publication, and the student experiences with primary inquiry.
